The Warlock Daughter eBook Jennifer Blake
Fearing her own inherited powers, Carita, a warlock's innocent daughter vows never to love - but Renfrey, a dark and dashing man of mystery proves to be more than her match... I'm sorry to say it, but I really didn't like this one whatsoever. It's a short story that was originally published in 1994 by Avon in the 'Stardust' anthology and it just didn't work for me. Not only did it feel dated, but the writing simply didn't flow well. I seriously think Ms. Blake had a dictionary next to her when she wrote it and agree with the reviewer who called it convoluted. There was way too much narrative and I had to re-read sentences on multiple occasions. Then there were the descriptions of nearly everything, when I'd personally have preferred more of a dialogue. The entire story literally takes place within hours, and I didn't buy into their "connection" or love at first sight. The characters seemed like cardboard cutouts and though Carita was okay, there's one pivotal point in the story which made me highly dislike Renfrey. These two talked in circles and even their actions kind of did the same. Not even the magic in this book could save it for me and frankly, I thought the ending was a little weird. Honestly, when you don't care for for the characters and you can't wait for 65 or so pages to be over, you know there's a problem. I just found the whole thing rather boring and unbelievable, and I couldn't suspend reality enough to enjoy it. I definitely wouldn't recommend it and was relieved when it finally ended.

The Warlock Daughter eBook Jennifer Blake Reviews
This didn't take me long to read. It was a good thing it didn't because once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I love Jennifer Blake books!!
Would you die for love? Would you love if your love could kill?
This warm, poetic and beautifully written short story leads you through the meeting and unconvention courtship of two beings who desparately want to be loved but fear it is beyond their reach.
Carita and Renfrey are both likeable and interesting. It was easy to hope that they would get to HEA.
My only complaint is that the story was too short. The ending was somewhat abrupt. Perhaps this is an introduction to a series. I liked the characters and would like to know more about them.
I like stories I can pick up and read in a few hours. This was fun and sexy - enjoyed the banter between the characters.
I'm so used to reading historical romances by Jennifer Blake, that when I saw this title I thought "this does no compute!" I loved it. It was a given that the heroine is a witch and capable of certain powers. It was also a given that the hero is an immortal...but the twist ending was amazing! I would never in a million years have dreamed up that one! This is a fun read that (typical of Jennifer Blake) throws the man and woman together in a battle of wits and words...and action.
Cute, short story. A little magic, some instant love, and dash of action. Made for a well rounded short story.
I got this one as an freebie. It was a very short novella set in New Orleans in I would say probably the mid-to-late 19th century.
This one didn't work for me for a couple of reasons
1. An overabundance of adjectives and adverbs. Not very many of the nouns didn't include a modifier of some sort! This meant the sentences were very heavy, often convoluted, and went around in circles.
2. The whole story took place in the span of an evening. One evening and they go from not knowing each other to being head over heels for each other.
3. The interactions between the characters weren't always believable - especially for that time period - and their reasons for their actions werent always well developed.
4. Her father revealing himself just after they consumated their relationship? Not romantic. And not a little on the disconcerting side.
Though it didn't work for me, I have no doubts that the story will appeal to fans of the romance genre.
A historical paranormal romance seemed just the thing, but this one blew (and I use that term literally since the pair of them threw an elemental temper tantrum) hot and cold with too little development to justify the 'deep' emotions that drove them.
She can't have a man because she's half-witch and it will kill him. Then, he can't have a half-witch woman because he's full warlock and it will kill her. So hey, why don't they just fling some weather around, make their clothes disappear and have a wizard's duel to settle it?
Yeah, no. It was okay and I only finished it because it was short.
